| Brief History of Grandfather Clocks: Galileo Galilei in 1582 discovered you could keep time using a pendulum. He later studied the pendulum clocks, and drew the first design but did not built the grandfather clock. Galileo discovery was put to use by Christopher huygens in which the first working grandfather clock was made. Although the clock did not keep time very well. In 1670 William Clement discovered that making the pendulum longer the clock would keep time better which required a longer clock.
